I want to thank Peter Cowley (he/him) for writing his book. He is generous in sharing his experience losing two sons to suicide and all his other trials and tribulations. The book is called “Public success private grief” https://www.ps-pg.com/ because like many others I only knew Peter as the angel investor who received the lifetime achievement award https://lnkd.in/eS8v7tmK by the EBAN – European Business Angel Network.
Peter has a serious cancer so wrote this book on a deadline to help others. I was lucky enough to sit next to him at a panel at the Royal Society of Medicine and learn about his book. Last week I got around to reading it and I wish everyone else did the same.
Peter writes well, as fast-paced as his mind works, juggling many stories in parallel. He speaks honestly about his early years as an alcoholic (now 25 years sober) . I learned a lot of things from what he and others faced. Surprisingly it is not a sad book, Peter writes matter-of-factly and describes how he learned to process grief and to eventually find joy. Like many entrepreneurs he internalised stress of the organisations he was responsible for and his frank discussion is also useful.
The book’s price includes a donation to PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide Charity. I urge everyone to get a copy. You can start reading free extracts here https://lnkd.in/exFmnqGP
